American Prairie

About Us

American Prairie is creating a vast and collaboratively managed nature destination that serves as a fully functioning ecosystem for wildlife, and offers visitors permanent access to the landscape that shaped our nation’s character.

Our vision consists of a 5,000 square-mile ecosystem that incorporates the extraordinary habitat diversity of northeast Montana, using a strategy that will add to and complement existing swaths of public land that have already been set aside for conservation. American Prairie is purchasing private land surrounding the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge and leveraging associated public lands for conservation on a vast scale.
We are increasing access to all types of recreation and we welcome Montanans to visit and enjoy our properties. Affordable lodging options include the Myers Family Huts and our two campgrounds– Antelope Creek and Buffalo Camp. We also enroll more than 80,000 acres in Montana’s Block Management program for hunting each year. Our National Discovery Center in Lewistown welcomes visitors from across Montana and the nation, providing a fun and educational prairie experience on the city’s Main Street.
